his specs: A7N8X-E AMD XP-M 2500+ Maxtor 80 giga Older Maxtor 80 giga 1 gigabyte mushkin ram anyway, his would also cause problems. I'm guessing the new GART driver must have something to do with this. Maybe the GART driver update has something to do with SP2 compatibility. even got some increase in IDE performance. I'll post more tomorrow after I have a chance to babysit with the install... If the power was bad, wouldn't it sometimes just cause problems? Two Hdd's in adjacent bays without an intake fan bringing in fresh air across them may be heating each other up intolerably.

In case its of any use this is a newly installed OS (SP2 slipstreamed) and the only nvidia drivers installed has been the 4.27 version which installed just fine. Or, If you have other stick/s of ram try them (after a CMOS clear). I'd always blamed it on a faulty driver or software install, (that's usually the only time I reboot) but now I wonder? RAID ... And enough old parts laying around to build at least two more rigs... Not sure. I assume at this point they had the drivers already loaded. Separate them by one bay's worth of space, or more.

Only file that loaded was si3112r.sys. https://technutopia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6923 Now the bios show the line with my intern SATA before the lines with the extern SATA and I can see the extern SATA in Machine proporties - but not in There is also a problem with my two external LaCie SATA-drives which use a PCI-SCSI card. The more I read about Maxtor on the forums, the more I am convinced that these drives are the problem.

I do believe it is being reconized now. Windows installed no problem on the Seagate, got into Windows, and bam same problem.

nor do I know if it makes sense that a faulty power supply would cause the problems I am encountering. Not at the Raid prompt ...This concerns me! You should be running about 34-38c idle and about 40-48c load (typical for a K7 AMD rig with air cooling). weblink although my master drive is western digital 80 giga.

Sep 8, 2005 #3 Captain_Jon TS Rookie Topic Starter Clicking sounds from the HD also made me think that I had a problem with the hard drives... I switched the FSB to 133 and now it's reading an Athlon 2400+.

Since we don't reboot it that often, I foolishly didn't investigate further. I had not installed any other software and hadn't wasted much time as of yet, so I took a chance and installed the 5.10 drivers thinking I would format and reinstall The IDE driver locked my system and the GART driver would not install. check over here Should read FSB=133 (266DDR) and DRAM should be on "SPD" running at 133 (266DDR) also.

If not, I'll download new chipset drivers (though I doubt that's the problem unless they somehow got corrupted). Using the site is easy and fun. That's when things started getting weird. A bit rushed for time but I hope that this piece is of some interest. #4 RickyG, Aug 20, 2005 grooge Senior member Joined: Dec 23, 2004 Messages: 542 Likes Un-zip the downloaded file (right-click > Extract all) to extract the contents:You will find 2 folders and 8 files.Copy the 8 files ONLY (not the 2 folders) to a formatted floppy

I didn't specifically look for bulging capacitors, but I was staring into the case for a couple hours last night, trying this and that, and didn't notice any. Skip Only way to restart the PC is to turn the PS off on the back or remove the power plug...this is new since we started this.

Seems strange that the ASUS MB disk didnt have SATA drivers. The BIOS boot order specifies floppy, HDD-0 (her C: drive), then CD-RW. Last edited by Razoola; 09-18-2004 at 07:27 AM.
