An assembled PC will usually cost you significantly less than a pre-built one. The link above details every supported CPU though, so should come in handy for bargain hunting. I would imagine a x3/x4 core Phenom would make a huge difference, but I will leave someone with my experience of these processors to advise you. But the reality for you is, it does not matter if you replace all your RAM with 4 x 2Gb as that will automatically enable dual-channel.
